About Angela

Scroll down

Angela Menzies paints larger-than-life size portraits that vibrate with color and humanity. She grew up living off the grid in a remote area of BC. With no TV or nearby neighbors, Angela turned to art as a pastime. In grade 11, she fell in love with psychology, and decided to study social and developmental psychology at the University of Victoria. During this time, she began painting figurative works. Upon graduating from UVic, Angela and her husband moved to the peaceful rural community of East Sooke to raise a family. Angela homeschooled her kids and began teaching children’s art classes, as well as operating and working in her art studio and participating in local studio tours.

Over the next three decades, Angela’s personal work evolved; weaving together narrative images portraying the beauty and vulnerability of being human. Angela’s spontaneous and disrupted realism paintings explore topics like mental illness and women's issues.

Angela has shown her work in the Sooke Fine Arts Show over the past 18 years. Her award winning work regularly appears in juried art shows and West-Coast galleries. Angela is also a member of the Federation of Canadian Artists. Angela Menzies Art Studio, located in the rural beauty of East Sooke, is open year round by appointment.
